Powers and Abilities

Rainmaker is a 2nd generation Gen-Active. She is the child of a member of the Team 7, who were the first persons exposed to the Gen-Factor.

Her powers allows her to control the elemental forces of nature that are air and water. This gives her the ability to :

  • Fly by creating vertical gusts of wind.
  • Project lightning.
  • Create tidal waves of water.
  • Invoke precipitations.

Her lightning projections are not as stable if she not wearing her specially designed arms amplibands.

She’s also trained in the fighting ways of her Apache tribe.

History

Apache-born, Sarah Rainmaker’s powers first manifested while living on the San Carlos reservation . She caught the attention of the Keepers who were ordered to capture the seedling and bring her back to I.O. for testing. But Sarah managed to elude her captors and fled to the desert. She remained in hiding for three days before Ripclaw, a fellow Apache, discovered her.

Sent away by her family to ensure her safety, Ripclaw was followed by the Keepers. Stormwatch was also notified that a young girl in the desert had manifested and saw to it that she would be safely returned to her family.

With the help of Battalion, Ripclaw was able to defeat the Keepers. Their victory was pointless, though – waiting for Sarah were the I.O. officials who sought Sarah in the first place.

Brought to Project: Genesis, Rainmaker met her future Gen13 teammates. They then escaped with the help of Lynch.

Band on the run

The kids attended the university courses Lynch paid for them. Meanwhile Sarah was also involved with environmentalist movements, defending her views about a saner way of life.

As Roxy was jealous of her sister’s Fairchild’s appearance and Sarah didn’t care about men, Rainmaker and Freefall became close friends. They both started to take Sarah’s sexual orientation in a lighter mood and even made jokes about it. Thus, when Freefall wanted to find her mother, she went with Sarah.

More recently, Lynch pushed Sarah to use her power more efficiently. Overkill was the word that came to the team’s mind, showing that Rainmaker’s power have not yet shown their full potential.

Description

She’s a gorgeous Native American. She has long straight black hair she occasionally combs in some Apache traditional style, with beads and feathers. When fighting, she wears red and green spandex that leaves the arms and the left leg bare.

She has her metallic amplibands and Apache high boots with knee protectors.

Personality

Rainmaker resents every aspect of modern day-to-day life. Junk food, massive deforestation, animal testings, women’s objectification, media manipulations, crass consumerism… She probably made an excellent anti-WCO demonstrator.

She doesn’t have any hang-ups about her appearance, and can run around naked without shame (to Grunge’s great pleasure, and the greatest dismay of Anna).

Sarah’s sexual orientation is quite puzzling for the rest of her team. She declared as lesbian, much embarrassing Freefall given the situation when she mentioned it. But then, she knows Burnout has a crush on her and is not insensitive to the boy’s care. She’s still discovering her sexual identity.

Quotes

“Sure, it all looks like clean wholesome fun, but the mass marketing of intimate female apparel is just another way for our male-dominated society to impose impossible standards on women by totally objectifying the female form.”
