Rock Lobster (Strikeback! enemy) comics

Rock Lobster

Game system: DC Heroes Role-Playing Game

Context

Strikeback! was a minor comics miniseries by Jonathan Peterson and Kevin Maguire. It started publication in 1994 with Malibu, but the comics market cratering interrupted publication. In 1996, it could be fully and correctly published by Image.

But the context isn’t too important. He’s just a weird-looking thug named after an excellent B52s song.

Powers and Abilities

Rock Lobster is basically a thug in a weird suit. He’s reasonably tough and agile.

The suit’s right hand is shaped like a large pincer with serrated edges. He often uses this as his main attack. The rear of the pincer is also fairly hardened, allowing him to make blunt attacks with it.

History

Rock Lobster was one of a group of mercenaries hired by Mars Dragonrider. These acted under the command of the mercenary Doberman, to carry out the kidnapping of Mars’ daughter Nikita. Doberman himself managed the actual abduction, but Rock Lobster was one of those assigned to guard their local warehouse base from Nikita’s boyfriend, Rascal, and his group Strikeback.

Strikeback arrived as expected, and, also as expected, battle ensued. However, some of the less loyal mercenaries decided to take Nikita to Dragonryder themselves, to get the money promised to Doberman. Rock Lobster was one of the crew Doberman took with him in pursuit of the ship.

They caught up to the ship as it crashed near the Grand Canyon. Nikita was now on the run with Jade Cobra and Midnight Devil, who’d rescued her. The mercenaries confronted them, and Rock Lobster didn’t do quite as well against Midnight Devil as he might have liked. But he did manage to corner Nikita, until she caught him on the head with a rock.

By the time he’d recovered, Nikita and her friends were captured, and the mercenaries escorted them to Dragonryder Island. He wasn’t seen during Monster X’s rampage, so it’s safe to assume he survived the episode.

Personality

He seems to have a fairly traditional thug mentality, throwing his weight around against most people. But he’s smart enough to obey Doberman.

He tends to trash-talk his opponents in battle, and doesn’t seem to hold grudges.

Quotes

“Slippery little devil, aren’t you ? But ducking and weaving isn’t really fighting, now is it ? God, what I wouldn’t give for some real pugnacity just once. Come on, give me just a little chall—UNGG !!”

DC Universe History

He could probably have given Aquaman a laugh, before Aqualad cleaned his clock.
