Snow White (Disney version)

Snow White

(Walt Disney version)

Context

This is Snow White as she appears in the immensely successful Walt Disney animated movie Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs, released in 1937. It is frequently considered to be the greatest American animation movies, and several of the songs became classics.

What got me thinking about writing the princesses up and some of their villains was Shrek the third when the princesses came together like some kind of odd X-team each with their own mutant powers. Snow White leads an animal attack with Led Zepplin’s Immigrant song as the backdrop .

Powers & Abilities

Snow White is known for her awesome beauty. The magic mirror proclaimed she was the “fairest one of all”. This and her innocence combined are likely her strongest allies. It has garnered her both friends and protectors.

Her ability to summon animals occurs as the animals are drawn to her innocent nature. They will work hard to please her in whatever capacity, they also actively warn her of and defend her from threats.

Snow White is quite a good cook.

She can be pretty persuasive, ordering even Grumpy to do what she wants.

History

Once upon a time, there lived a lovely little Princess named Snow White. Her vain and wicked stepmother the Queen feared that someday Snow White’s beauty would surpass her own.

So, she dressed the little Princess in rags and forced her to do manual labor as a scullery  maid.

Each day the vain Queen consulted her magic mirror, “Magic Mirror on the wall, who is the fairest one of all?”…and as long as the mirror answered, “You are the fairest one of all.” Snow White was safe from the Queen’s cruel jealousy.

It was bound to happen and one morning while Snow White was scrubbing the stone staircases, the magic mirror told the Queen that Snow White was indeed the fairest in all the land. That same morning Snow White met a handsome young prince who was completely captivated with her, he fell in love at once.

While the young prince serenaded Snow White the Queen looked on with contempt. Soon the Queen devised a plan to get rid of Snow White for good.

She called her most faithful huntsman and asked him to take Snow White into the forest and kill her. When he objected she demanded he bring back her heart as proof. The huntsman was shocked but steeled himself to the task.

The huntsman considered going through with it but in the end his conscience wouldn’t allow it. He returned to the Queen with a pig’s heart in place of Snow White’s.

Meanwhile, Snow White fled into the forest and with the help of the animals there came to the Seven Dwarf’s cottage. Snow White and her new animal companions cleaned the dwarves’ home in hopes they may allow her to stay.

Evil Woman

The Dwarves came home from work to find Snow White asleep in their upstairs bed. After a comical meeting, Snow White endeavored to clean up these little men and give the cottage a woman’s touch.

The huntsman’s deception was soon uncovered and the Queen decided to take matters into her own hands. She went to her alchemic lab to concoct a spell that would change her appearance to that of an old hag.

She then made a death apple; one bite would mean instant death. The Queen was meticulous in her planning, she checked for an antidote. There was one: Love’s first kiss. The Queen wasn’t worried about that happening.

The animals deduced the old hag was actually the Queen but try as they might they couldn’t convince the naive Snow White. The Queen played the part of an apple peddler. When the animals couldn’t stop the Queen they went with much haste to the mines where the seven dwarves were working.

The animals returned quickly with the dwarves but found they were too late. Snow White was already dead.

A sleep like death

The Dwarves gave chase after the wicked Queen who climbed up a rocky peak. The wind was howling and lightning crashing over head; the dwarves pursued the Queen who perched above with murderous eyes fixed on them!

Using a branch as a lever the Queen pried at a large boulder, set to roll it down and crush the dwarves. She let out an evil cackle!

Just when the boulder was about to break free a chance bolt of lightning blasted the ledge away where she stood. The Queen fell to her death.

The Apple of the Sleeping Death did its work on Snow White. She slept in a death like state. So beautiful even in death, that the dwarfs could not find it in their hearts to bury her. They fashioned a coffin of glass and gold, and kept eternal vigil at her side.

The Prince, who had searched far and wide, heard of the maiden who slept in the glass coffin.

The Prince came to her and kissed her, true love’s first kiss. The Princess Snow White awoke, she rode off into the sunset with her Prince to his castle where they lived happily ever after!

Description

At the young age of 14, Snow White is very beautiful with flawless, fair skin and short ebony black hair. She has plump, rose red lips, rosy cheeks and a petite figure.

A doe-eyed beauty, Snow White owns a powerful soprano’s voice.

Snow White wears a court dress consisting of a blue top with poofy red and blue short sleeves with a light yellow ankle length dress with a white petticoat underneath and tan pumps with yellow bows on them. A maroon cape is on her back. She wears a red headband with a bow in her hair.

Personality

Snow White often bends back her hands at the wrist. She lifts the front or back of her dress with pinched fingers as appropriate to her surroundings so she doesn’t trip or snag her dress.

Snow White is a princess of noble birth who is forced into servitude by her jealous stepmother, the evil Queen. She is very pure hearted, innocent, and a bit naïve, but she never loses faith that one day her true love will come, rescue her, and take her away. She remains cheerful and kind, no matter how poorly her stepmother might treat her.

Snow White (Disney cartoon) asleep surrounded by her friends

A born optimist, who will always see the bottle half full no matter how grim things may seem. A silent dreamer, she loves helping people less fortunate than herself and never judges others. And with a kind, gentle and feminine nature, she follows her heart and does what she feels is right even if it can lead her into trouble.

For example, she helps a suspicious, ugly crone (who turned out to be the evil Queen in disguise) by bringing her into the cottage after Grumpy warned not to let anyone in for her own protection.

She is timid and shy, seeing goodness in everyone to a fault, but through it all she’s a good person with a huge heart and a motherly soul that can charm anyone, even Grumpy.

Quotes

(Answering the Queen’s question of who is fairest)
Mirror: “Famed is thy beauty majesty, but hold. A lovely maid I see. Rags cannot hide her gentle grace. Alas, she is more fair than thee.”
Queen: “Alas, for her ! Reveal her name.”
Mirror: “Lips, red as the rose. Hair, black as ebony. Skin, white as snow.”
Queen: “Snow White !”

“What do you do when things go wrong ?” (birds answer with a short tune) “Oh, you sing a song.”

“Oh, what adorable little beds.”

Snow White (Disney cartoon) singing and leaning on the wishing well

(Singing then waiting for the echo from the well) “I’m wishing, I’m wishing, for the one I love, to find me, to find me, today.”

“Doc, Happy, Sneezy, Dopey—” (laughs) “What funny names for children.”

Queen: “And because you’ve been so good to poor old Granny, I’ll share a secret with you. This is no ordinary apple; it’s a magic wishing apple.”
Snow White: “A wishing apple ?”
Queen: “Yes ! One bite, and all your dreams will come true.”
Snow White: “Really ?”
Queen: “Yes, girlie. Now, make a wish, and take a bite.”

DCU History

There is already a Snow White in the DC Universe based on the Grimm’s fairy tale. The Disney version is probably the most well-known though.

Design notes

The dwarves were comic relief; as to their stats they were pretty normal having 02’s with an occasional 03. Each with Shrinking: 01, a drawback matching their personality. Sneezy had Super Breath when he sneezed. Doc wore glasses and was the gem appraiser and leader.

Most have the Artist skill in some form whether it be singing, musical instrument or craftsmanship.

The Age Drawback may not be necessary, in medieval times a girl of 14 would likely be considered a grown woman. Height and Weight were gathered from an averages chart for girls of age 14.

I’ve left her Wealth rated at 000 APs as it is during most of the movie but with the Queen dead and marrying the Prince. Snow White should be quite wealthy with the combining of the kingdoms. She’d acquire Financial Backer (Billionaire), but at that point the story is concluded.
