Morgan Stryker of Cyberforce

Stryker

(Morgan Stryker)

Context

Stryker was one of the launch characters for Image Comics, in 1992. He was in the Cyberforce “corner” of that universe, and briefly led his own team in Strykeforce. This part of Image would split off to become Top Cow.

But since Image was doing a tonne of crossovers and sharing character early on, he can be spotted in numerous books that would become the WildStorm setting, the Savage Dragon setting, the Awesome universe… heh, he even was in a DC crossover.

Powers and Abilities

Morgan Stryker is a cybernetically-enhanced mutant. He sports three super-strong and tough cyber-arms with some special equipment hidden within.

His training make him an excellent marksman and hand-to-hand fighter. And he’s a natural with guns and combat.

His cybernetic eye allows him to see clearly in the UV and IR ranges ; he also has targeting computers in his brain to further improve his aim.

History

Morgan Stryker was born with three right arms. That was apparently the result of a secret project (probably government-sponsored) giving birth to mutants. This research was headed by doctor Peter Reinbeck. Stryker is one of an unknown number of gamma 4 subjects. Gamma Four features include four asymmetrical arms, great aggressiveness and superb hand-eye coordination.

The same project gave birth to some Gamma Two mutants, including Ballistic. Large-scale experiences were apparently made during the Việt Nam war/ These killed hundreds of Vietnamese women in order to give birth to useful mutants.

Soldier of misfortune

Stryker seems to have been born in the 1950’s, and may have been a soldier for most of his life. It is known for sure that he served during the Việt Nam War with a Special Forces platoon made up of other Reinbeck mutants. This unit included another gamma 4 who would become Buzzcut.

Stryker was grievously wounded by a hand grenade that cost him his right arms. One account is that it was caused by friendly fire while attempting to restrain another gamma 4, who had gone berserk. He was taken to Reinbeck, who upgraded him with cybernetic arms to replace the ones he lost. Reinbeck also gave Stryker a life-prolonging elixir.

However, Stryker, revolted by the use of force-grown clones as organ donors, killed Reinbeck.

Soldier of fortune

Escaping, Stryker became a free-lance merc. He worked for the CIA and various agencies before being recruited by the corporation called Cyberdata. Cyberdata upgraded his arms and sensory functions. Then they made him part of their death-squads, the SHOCs (Special Hazardous Operations Cyborg).

Eventually, a Cyberdata researcher broke the cybernetic and mental conditioning of a small group of SHOC. He fled the evil corporation along with them. These people, Stryker among them, would become the super-hero group Cyberforce, fighting against Cyberdata in order to undo the terrible evil they had done while manipulated by the corp.

Stryker also founded another super-team, Stryke Force, which lasted for several months.

Description

Stryker generally wears combat boots, jeans, a pull-over and a big trenchcoat. His right arms and shoulders, and the right half of his neck and face (including one eye) are obviously cybernetic. He has long, wild blonde hair held in a tail, and is always ill-shaven. He often wears leather gloves.

Personality

Stryker is a typical American cinematic action hero. He’s a macho, extrovert, emotional fighter with a tough and gritty attitude. While he’s supposed to have a military background, he acts recklessly and flamboyantly.

He’s often portrayed in some seedy bar, getting into bar fights, carousing with lowlives and flirting with easy ladies. He has a thing going on with Ballistic.

DC Universe History

Replace Cyberdata with Lexcorp, and here you go ! The SHOC become variations on the Team Luthor theme, and the Kraken (for those of you who read Cyberforce) would have been a master weapon intended against Superman.

The Cyberdata mess in the last few months of 1996 would be replaced by the seeming death of Luthor and the appearance of Luthor II, so you ’ll have to position Cyberforce in the early 90s.

Design notes

As he never seems to have a problem concealing his four arms under a trenchcoat and most people do not seem to be overly bothered by them, I did not give Stryker a Strange Appearance.
