Context

This character is an original creation. We often call these “homemades” or “homebrewed” – think home cooking or craft beer.

Many of these characters were created to take part in tabletop role-playing game sessions. Others were invented as a creative writing exercise, often as part of a community event.

Powers and Abilities

Thanks to the mystic stone of Humoria, Norm has gained absolute control of his physical form. He has become something of a human balloon animal. He can reshape himself on a moment’s notice, and often does so just for the humor of it.

He has also gained a secondary ability, to be able to breathe underwater. This, and this alone, is what guided him in the choice of his incongruous moniker.

He is also an accomplished circus clown, though his trauma earlier has led him to become a Birthday Clown. He has exceptional athletic abilities, and is a professional balloon-animal maker.

That, and his time in Desert Storm has made him a crack shot with his “Shining Bazooka”.

History

Norm Finkelbaum was a young circus clown, who was called away to Desert Storm. While there, he stumbled across the ancient Stone of Humoria, an ancient civilization for whom being a clown was the greatest occupation. It imparted upon him the not-so vast powers of the Water Clown, but also exploded in his face.

He was given a purple heart, and sent back to the circus.

At his circus, Finkelbaum first discovered his powers. In a place filled with bearded women, men who impale their arms with iron spikes, and people who wear clown makeup 24 hours a day, he was shocked to be outcast as a freak. He ran away, and left for the Big City.

There, he acquired a bazooka from his old army buddies, and added special paddles to his unicycle. Armed for bear, he took to the streets and waterways as… The Stupendous Shining Wave !

Description

Norm is a thirty-something, slightly overweight man who almost never takes off his clown makeup.

In heroic guise, he wears a silver clown suit, steel clown shoes, and a motorcycle helmet with his makeup painted on in translucent colors. Not exactly the smartest thing for clarity of vision, but he seems to have no problems.

Personality

Norm is a noble, caring man, who believes that humor can soften even the hardest of hearts. He considers himself the leader and guardian of the Birthday Clowns, and will protect them, and birthday parties, with his life.

Due to the trauma of his treatment by the people of his old circus, he finds himself thinking about his old life, even in the midst of battle, should he find himself in a circus of any kind.

Finally, and this is believed to be a racial trait of both the Circus Clown and the Birthday Clown, he absolutely detests mimes.

DC Universe History

If anyone even _thinks_ about using this guy in the mainstream DC Universe, slap them. However, he could be a decent sidekick or companion to Ambush Bug…
