Super-Skrull (Fantastic 4 enemy) (Marvel Comics)

Super-Skrull

“FOOL ! This is no common miscreant you face ! Mine is the power of the Fantastic Four !”

Context

The Super-Skrull is a classic Marvel Comics villain, who appeared in 1963. He is an evil shape-changing space alien who has all of the powers of the early Fantastic Four combined, which is the epitome of Silver Age  comics cool. Though originally an FF foe, he’s fought just about everyone.

Unfortunately our timing with this writeup wasn’t the best. After decades of being just a baddie, the Super-Skrull received the bulk of his character development right after we profiled him. So we’ll have to redo everything one of these days. Dang Skrulls.

Powers and Abilities

The Super-Skrull, being a Skrull, can alter his shape to resemble any person or animal. Worse, he was bionically re-engineered to possess the combined superhuman powers of the early Fantastic Four.

He also got surgical implants of numerous power-receptors. These gather the same cosmic energy that mutated the FF and mimic the functions of their powers. They are needed since Skrullian physiology is unable to store the vast amounts of energy needed to mimic all the FFs powers internally.

All the Super-Skrull’s artificial powers vary in degree because they are all dependant on the amount of cosmic radiation he receives. At his peak he has powers far surpassing those of the FF.

As one of his race’s finest soldiers the Super-Skrull also possesses skills in hand-to-hand combat, vehicle use and military skills. The Super-Skrull also operates Skrull and Kree technology to an expert degree.

To this day the Super-Skrull hasn’t yet developed his powers to their full potential which is often the cause of his failures.

History

As a response to the first defeat of the Skrulls by the hands of the Fantastic Four, the aliens devised a warrior specifically devised to overcome the troublesome quartet. Thus the greatest scientists of the Skrull Empire selected one of their best warriors. They engineered him into the being known as the Super-Skrull, possessing the powers of the entire FF all at greater levels than they.

Skrullian physiology was incapable of storing the vast amounts of energies needed for all the FFs powers internally. Thus they created a powerful energy transmitting satellite around a Skrull world. It would transmit energy to the Super-Skrull as needed.

The Super-Skrull attacked the FF, but got defeated as they jammed his energy transmitting ray. He was entombed on an island. Kl’rt was later released as the scientists of the Skrull Empire understood his predicament and increased the strength of the ray so that it could reach him. The Super-Skrull was free to attack the FF, but again got defeated.

The Skrull Empire allowed him to prove his worth once more by sending him against Thor, the Thunder God, but the Super-Skrull failed once more.

Exiles

He was sent into exile for several years, but was summoned before the emperor when it appeared that their hated enemies the Kree would gain control of planet Earth. He was sent to capture the Kree Captain Mar-Vell and succeeded. At home he then decided to betray his emperor and was sent into permanent exile.

Later he worked for Thanos the Mad Titan, but he was severely beaten by Captain Mar-Vell and went to Earth to recuperate without interstellar transportation. Later, in a quest to get home again, the Super-Skrull ended up fighting Ms. Marvel and Spider-Man when trying to steal a bit of the crystalline cavourite.

Ms. Marvel managed to block the energy broadcast beam to the Super-Skrull by creating an electro-net above him. Super-Skrull came into contact with the crystal and the blocking effect was negated. The sudden surge that resulted from the Skrullian energy beam combined with the strange energies of the crystal teleported him away back to the Andromeda Galaxy.

Unfortunately the Super-Skrull didn’t regain physical form upon arrival, but consisted of disconnected atoms within the broadcast beam generator.

Reintegration

Later when the Skrullian home world was destroyed by Galactus, the Super-Skrull’s atoms were sent back to Earth where they were trapped for months in the Van Allen radiation belt. Scientists, including Dr. Walter Langkowski alias Sasquatch, performed an experiment in which the Super-Skrull finally regained his physical form.

Sasquatch, however, sent the dangerous alien back to the Van Allen radiation belts.

Several times the Super-Skrull has come back since to plague the FF and others, but they have always managed to defeat him. His most recent plans have, unrealistically, been to reunite the Skrull Empire under his supreme leadership. He’s also started to use a secret identity, who’s also a well-known actor.

Description

The Super-Skrull looks like an ordinary Skrull warrior. He wears a purple full body suit with dark boots, gloves and a black skintight cowl that extends from his head to his shoulders and abdomen. At the shoulders the cowl extends like sharp spikes in sideways directions.

The only visible part of his skin is his face which, like all Skrulls, is colored green, with strange eyes and big pointy green ears. To any human it’s clear that he is an alien.

As a well trained warrior the Super-Skrull also looks rather well trained with lots of muscle. In all combat situations he moves like a true soldier, firm and fast.

Personality

The Super-Skrull believes he is the finest, most powerful warrior of the entire universe. Always having been loyal to the Skrull Empire he fanatically remains so even after it has turned against him. Being a true warrior he is a ruthless fighter who doesn’t hesitate to kill foes or even enemy civilizations.

He will ally with others if they share a mutual foe, such as the Fantastic Four, whom the Super-Skrull really hates. He is, of course, arrogant in speech and action. Recently, since he’s started a plan to reunite the Skrull Empire under his own supreme leadership, he no longer bothers with the FF, who’d draw unwanted attention on him.

Quotes

“Earth for the Skrull Empire !”

“I claim this planet and all it possesses, in the name of the Imperial Skrull Empire !”

DC Universe History

Well, Skrulls are really Marvel. Either make him a bad Durlan or even white Martian with all the JLA’s powers or keep his origin exactly as is but make some DC group his main opponents instead. A co-op with Paibok the Power Skrull would also be nice.

Variant stats

Classic 1960s Super-Skrull: During his first appearance his maximum STR was only 16 APs, and he didn’t have the Force Field power at all. He also had SIA (Defeating the Fantastic Four) up until the most recent of times.

Recently: As to his most recent appearance he appears to have heightened Mystical Stats also; add 1 AP to each. His Hypnotism power has been boosted up to 10 AP’s. Additionally, he’s also using a Secret Identity, which actually is a famous actor. Although not discussed in the comics my guess would be that, being an evil alien, he probably killed the real actor in order to take his place.

Furthermore, the old SIA (Defeating the Fantastic Four) has been removed. Seemingly being even more arrogant he now has a “you are such an insignificant gnat that I don’t have time to waste on the likes of you” kind of attitude towards the members of the Fantastic Four.
